how can i learn to think in a more tactical way and what would be good tactics i could use?

my friends and I all play the game mordheim which is a different form of warhammer its basically gorilla warfare with warhammer models I play a shadow warriors (high elves) have great rang weapons and are good at attacking in close combat and have above average movement
but their big falue is they are really bad at taking hits
what would be some tactics i could use for them

In a situation like this, close quarters should be a last resort. And because it’s about guerilla warfare, just stay hidden and run n’ gun. With above average movement and good range, a run n’ gun playstyle sounds like a good idea.
